想了解一下有多少朋友是2000年以后移民这儿，现在找到一份比较正式的工作的，起码是拿年薪的。

I think you meant the people chosen the first option having a profession job now, not 3 years ago and then being laid off.

因为来了已经有三年多了，一直没能找到合适的工作，现在在上学，打工，所以想了解一下同时来的朋友发展如何，也想知道上完学是否能找到工作。

In some case, it's the completely opposite.

some people choose to be a contractor because they can get paid much more and they don't need the benefits of permanent job(or the pay outweight it) And they never worry of getting another job(usually they have much in demand skils). They are kind of like well-to-do.

It's not me, but I know people like that
