study permit to return to Canada

Hi, I am an international student in Ottawa U. I need to go to the Germany to attend a conference from July 28 to August 2. I wonder how can I come back to Ottawa after the meeting giving my status in Canada.

I have a valid study permit up to March 2005.
My visa, which was issued in Beijing since I first came here to study, will be expired on June 30 2004.
I have applied for permanant resident and got an initial assessment from the Buffalo center but it is not approved yet.

Yes, but how to apply for the visitor visa? Can I need to send my application to Buffalo now? Or I have to apply for it while I am in Germany? In that case I do not have the time to get the visa as I will only stay there for 5 days. Please give more details on how to apply for the visitor visa when I have a study permit and now in Ottawa. Thanks a lot.

Well, applying the visa before you leave is not a bad idea. Otherwise you risk not being able to return here if your visa was not granted in Germany.

For applicants in Canada, they were requested to send their applications to Buffalo. But that was 3-4 years ago. I am not sure if there was any change since then. You may want to check with CIC. Considering their service standard and the time spent on mail traveling, you have to act as quick as possible.

I have sent my application to Buffalo. I wonder how long it takes for the visa officer to issue such a visa. I checked their web site and found for Chinese citizens there MAY BE a waiting time of TEN days before processing a Chinese application. Is that always the case? I's like to hear those who ever applied for this kind of visa at Buffalo. I also would like to know how long it takes for a regular mail from the Buffalo center to Ottawa. I need this information because I have to get my passport back in order to board the plane to Germany on July 28. Thanks for any information and the suggestion to have a temparary visa processed faster. Thanks for your attentions.
