digital camera memory card？

Does different type of cards matter? Will a camera with CF card or SD/MMC card perform the same?

There are several types of memory card:

1. Compact flash card, most DCs use it, the cheapest one.
2. XD media card, Olympus brand DCs us it, expensive.
3. Memort stick or MS card, only SONY's products use it, expensive.
4. Others: MMC card, SM(Smart Media) card, etc. not for common use.

I am looking for a Kodak that uses SD. I am not sure if SD is as good as CF. I know CF has big size and cheap. In the future, CF may develope bigger and cheaper card. How about SD? Memory card is also a big consumption.
