at this time you cannot transfer US dollars from your Citibank account to an account at another Canadian bank or trust company

MBNA is not known as a commercial bank, but a banking mainly in the credit card business.

Don't know if this applies but banks in Canada. But when depositing money in a U.S. bank, please make sure that it is insured by FDIC (Federal Deposit Insutance Corporation). Usually, an FDIC-insured bank can guarantee that your first $10,000 is protected if the bank goes under.
