做contract的可以买EI吗？

It depends. I don't think a person can pay EI on himself. This has to be paid by the employer which is required by law. Therefore, if you work as an independent contractor or self-employeed in other word, you won't be able to buy EI even you wish to. But if you work as a term employee, wither long or short, your employer has to deduct EI from your pay cheque and pay employer's part.

Hope this is correct since I didn't find any official answer.

What's the difference between independent contractor and self-employed? if I open a "sole proprietor" company and sign a contract with an agent in name of my company, am i entitled for EI? Which status I am belonged to in this case, independent contractor or self-employed?

For "Sole proprietor", the consulting company MUST deduct EI premium from your pay cheques, therefore you'll get EI after the contract finish.
