他们还能多住一天吗

我得一个朋友最近为搬家伤脑筋。他们现在的LEASE 8月31号到期，新租的房子的LEASE从9月1日生效。现在住在那个房子的主顾也拖到8月31日搬家。本来我的朋友打算8月31日，上家一搬走，不用RENTAL OFFICE 收拾，下午或晚上就搬进去（等搬进去后，再让他们慢慢收拾），这样呢，就解决了8月31日晚睡觉问题。但RENTAL OFFICE 不同意。他们又找到现在住的地方的房东，希望能多住一天，哪怕多付钱也成，至少家具不用转存。但他们也不同意，说我的朋友已签字，不能改（6月底的时候，我的朋友收到是否续租的NOTICE，他们说不续租，并在NOTICE上签了字。当时朋友说没想很多）。现在发现，问题并没有想的那么简单，至少8月31日晚上在哪过？ 是否还有希望和房东说说，不知谁有类似的情况，给我的朋友介绍介绍。我家房子小，没法住下他们一家人，可又不希望他们住MOTEL，太贵了，东西又怎么办呢？

Move all stuff on Aug 31 afternoon or evening
and leave them outside the new place until this time.

your friend can argu like this,
he paid for whole month rent of aug. so he has right to stay in old place till 12am 31st of aug.
he rents the new place from sept. he has the right to stay from 0:00am of sept. 1st.
see what i mean?

It should be "12:00 pm 31st of aug".
Can you have any new ideas?

If he planed to use moving company, he can select one which can hold all the stuff and moved in next day.
