How do most Chinese feel about bilingualism?

Unfair. Master English is hard enough. How can you master French again?
It basically excluded new immigrants ever have a chance to work for the Fed and get promoted.
And it excluded your offspring to work for Fed and get promoted if you ever want your Child to learn your native language instead of French.
Granted your child is smart enought to master to learn Enlish, French and your own native language, what's the chance she/he have enough time and brain energy to learn other things and excel in other field??

So, Forget the Fed government. It is designed to belong to the French.

IMHO, there is absolutely no need for bilingualism in Canada. How many people are really bilingual in Canada, 1%, 5%? The last PM can't even speak decent English, wasn't that a shame for the majority of Canadian? Also, Quebec should be an independent, if they wish to be. I don't see any damage to get rid of it. At least, we could expect the next PM to speak better English ;-))))

Trillingualism

To all Chinese, Billingualism requirement here in Canada is actually Trillingualism whether you speak Mandarin or Cantonese in the first place. To ask a person fluently speak three languages other than his/her career knowledge is way too much. Yet, everybody here has to "respect" the fact that both English and French are official languages here in Canada, like it or not. We have to accept the fact that most government employees we deal with are French and usually take us a while to scribble down their name. We have to accept the fact that half of the most information booklets are useless and can be either recycled or used as toilet paper. We have to follow the game rule that government only hires people who can speak French even they have a strong accent in English. And we have to bear with the long waiting time and the so-called efficiency as most of these employees are taking coffee breaks or are smoking or are taking vocation again, or are wining and dining somewhere.

The biggest advocator for Billingualism is Stephan Dion, who wants to make bilingualism mandatory for all Canadian cities. Guess he never travelled as far as west of Ottawa, not to mention Vancouver. Poor Mr. Dion, go practise your English first, if you want to make yourself understood by vast majority of Canadian. Or you can keep dreaming that everyone else will start learning French to be able to listen to you talk, keep dreaming........

It's not a discrimination to Chinese or other immigrants only. Many white people can't speak French too.

A white guy even complained being a white, being a male, being a non-gay, being a English speaker, he's the most discriminated person, because he's not in any "minority" group and couldn't get any special treatment in employment.

Yeah, he's getting old and new graduates are taking the rest positions.
