Which visa you are applying? I just do it for my parents who have vistor visa. It took more than one month. And I called them, basically what they say is, as long as you mailed the package, you are fine.
My recommendation is: Give them a call, you might get the same answer with me, write down the date/time of the phone call, who you are talked to in case there is future problem. Then you are OK.
