The thousand islands is about 140 km from Ottawa. There is a large sign for the exit and you can not miss it. Driving along the parkway is very enjoyable and you could stop over a few sites on your way to your boat tour wharf.
There are a few of options for your boat tour, one-hour or three-hour tours. You can land (you do not have to) on an America castle (Note: you need a visa if you are not a Canadian citizen). There is a cafeteria on boat. Light lunch and coffee et al. are available. You may need one day for the trip. Scenery on both sides of the islands is worth photos taken.
