how early can take maternity leave before you give birth? 17 weeks?
once you got pregnant, can you company lay you off?

There is no restriction now. But cannot be too early. The total benefits is 50 weeks within 52 weeks including or around the birth week (two weeks waiting period-you do not get benefits).
If you are too sick, you may start with sickness benefits. Then you may be entitled up to 65 weeks (15 sickness, 15 maternity and 35 childcare).

Your employer cannot use the maternity leave as the reason to lay you off. Your job is protected by law.
 
This is the law. But sometime, the officer may interpret your situation differently.

17 weeks should be correct, as maternity benefits cannot start more than 17 weeks before the birth (2 weeks waiting period plus 15 weeks of maternity benefits).
 
The correct information is 10 week advance. Include 2 week waiting period and 8 week in benefit.
If you can find an OB says that you couldn't work in physicial condition, you can apply sickness benefit when you are pregnant.
 
the correct answer is that the earlist date for meternity benefits is 8 weeks before the expected confinement week.
The following the Section 22 of the EI Act:

Pregnancy 22. (1) Notwithstanding section 18, but subject to this section, benefits are payable to a major attachment claimant who proves her pregnancy.
Weeks for which benefits may be paid (2) Subject to section 12, benefits are payable to a major attachment claimant under this section for each week of unemployment in the period

(a) that begins the earlier of
(i) eight weeks before the week in which her confinement is expected, and
(ii) the week in which her confinement occurs; and
(b) that ends 17 weeks after the later of
(i) the week in which her confinement is expected, and
(ii) the week in which her confinement occurs.

Your employer cannot use the maternity leave as the reason to lay you off. Your job is protected by law.

No employer will say they lay you off because your are pregnant.

不用医生开证明,只要跟老板说要maternity leave,老板就会给你张ROE,拿这张东西就可以申请Maternity Benefits和Parental Benefits,一起申请可行,不一起也行,Parental Benefits 丈夫也可以申请的。发放的金额好象是最后的半年薪水的平均。

预产期在哪一天是要医生证明的,家庭医生也可以开这个证明。我在申请的时候就被HRDC的人建议先把自己够资格休得全申请下来,如果提前上班就取消,以减少麻烦。

这么说,申请还是要医生的证明的喽,可是网上申请的材料里面并没提到要这个东东呀,另外这个医生开的证明是免费的吗? 顺便说一下,丫丫,你的宝宝真是好可爱!
