about hardwood or ceramic tile

i would choose hardwood for the kitchen floor, although it is more expensive than ceramic tile.

建议使用vinyl with the wood pattern.

好处是看上去像木地板, 而且不怕水,耐磨.

丫丫,你是说到俺的心窝窝里去了。我是想要木地板,但家里非认真讲究的人太多。使我很头痛。

builders use ceramic tile.

Chinese cooking is usually fairly greasy, ceramic is easier to clean and more resistant to grease. We have ceramic tiles in our kitchen, so far no complaint.

depends on the view and space. my suggestion is if large open space, i will use hardwood flooring with professional kitchen equipment, if it is small area, i will use european ceramic with special
design on the floor and side wall too. sorry, forget one more thing, if u use hardwood floor, please do design the special lighting system and cabinet doors to match the floor color..very important

Question:

Could you help us select which type of flooring is better for our kitchen; ceramic tile or prefinished hardwood. My wife is afraid of accidental water spills, eg. dishwasher, and I am concerned about the hardness of ceramic tile on the feet and its unforgiving surface when things are accidently dropped on it.

Answer:

If you use ceramics, make sure you install electrical radiant heat cables under it for more comfort and if you use hardwood try to go with the pre-finished product. The rest is strictly taste and more discussion.

Question:

is it o.k. to install hardwood laminate in a kitchen area? my concern would be moisture and steam from sink and appliances.
what about real hardwood in a kitchen area?

Answer:

I'm really not one for installing any seamed vinyl or laminated flooring in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, etc. We have hardwood in our kitchen and the past seven years have confirmed to us that we did not make a mistake. Wood responds in a predictable way to all the abuse whereas the others may not.

Question:

I have hardwood floors in my kitchen. We made the mistake to use Maple for the flooring as we wanted a light colour. We realize this was a bad choice as the Kitchen is our highest traffic area. Anway. We have all these little "dents" that are caused by the kitchen table and chairs. I had protecitve pads glued to the bottom of the chair, but it has made no difference. What's the best solution? Is it possible to get the floor sanded and then refinished? This is only a problem in the area of the room where the kitchen table and chairs are located. The hardwood from what I recall was installed pre-finished.

Answer:

The floor can be sanded and re-finished and the dents will go but there is no reason for the dents other than carelessness.
Question:

We are contemplating replacing all the flooring on the main floor of our house. We want to put pre-finished oak hardwood flooring for most of the floors, but we are undecided about the kitchen. Our first choice for looks would be hardwood flooring in the kitchen. But what would we be getting ourselves into? - Would spilling a bag of milk on the hardwood ruin it? - What about a leak or flood from the dishwasher? In our case, the dishwasher is mounted directly on the sub floor with no room to install it any higher. I fear any leak or flood would get “under” the hardwood flooring. - What about ceramic tile? I heard somewhere that it is hard on the feet because it does not have any “give” compared to linoleum.

Answer:

We have had ash in the kitchen for some years and my wife wouldn't have anything else - I visit the kitchen only as a consumer. We've had a dishwasher flood and have not done anything to the floor to rectify, I know of others who have had to do a sanding and re-finishing of the area after floods. You mention milk and I guess that would be about the worst (odour) thing to spill on it because it would get into the grooves. Actually, I think hardwood gives a lot more than does linoleum so that looks after that.
