If there are indeed some insects, maybe they are beetles. Larvae of beetles (also called grubs) feed on the root of you grass. That is why you see grass is dying.
You can buy insectcides to spray your lawn. Canadian Tire or Home Dept should have this type of insecticides. There is one called "Grubsout", very effective.
