Essential Functions:
Work with Customer, Vendors prepare Data network solutions. This work can include meeting with the customer to gather information and present recommendations, generating Visio diagrams and presentation materials, and conducting technical reviews of proposed solutions with peers. -Work with Customers, Vendors, to resolve Data Network problems. Diagnostic work can involve the use of protocol analyzers, software management products, and hand-held tools. -Install Data Network Equipment, including Firewalls, Routers, Bridges, CSU/DSUs, Modems, Hubs, Cables, and so on. This installation work can include project management. -Maintain Voice and Data Network Equipment by performing move, add, and change work, software upgrades, backups, and other tasks. -Document problems, customer configurations, change requests, and other topics -Perform special assignments, such as pricing out customer change requests, inventory work, and off-site installation work.
Essential Knowledge:
-Extensive knowledge of specialty transmission devices such as Firewalls, Routers, FRADs, Bridges, Host Gateways, and Protocol Converters. Knowledge of Cisco and Check Point devices is of particular value. -Extensive knowledge of WAN Networking elements such as transmission devices (CSU/DSUs, Modems, Multiplexers, etc.), circuits (ATM, T1, Frame-Relay, ISDN, sub-rates, etc.), cabling conventions, and associated diagnostic tools. -Extensive knowledge of LAN Equipment, including Hubs, Switches, cabling, NICs, and associated PC software and diagnostic tools. -Working knowledge of a variety of PC software office tools, including word processors, spreadsheets, and drawing tools. -Working knowledge of PBX administration, including ACD setup, vector script development, and ARS call routing.
Essential Education:
-Minimum of six years experience performing similar job; college degree and vendor certifications (Cisco, Check Point) preferred. -
Essential Skills:
-Written and verbal communication skills. -Skill in preparing and presenting network solutions. -Skill in problem solving. -Project management skill. -Skill in customer relations.
Organizational "Fit" Considerations:
-Must wear pager and be available as scheduled during off-shift hours, including weekends and holidays. -Off-site travel may be required on occasion. -Will occasionally need to move heavy items. -Cable installation work will be required. -Must be able to work independently in multi-tasking environment. -Will require working in a highly air-conditioned environment.
