City Eyes 4.4% Tax Increase

Ottawa City Council has directed staff to draft a 2005 budget with a 4.4% property tax increase for homeowners.
The City is facing a 76 million dollar shortfall in the 2005 budget.
The tax increase would include additional funding for the Ottawa Police Service.
Councillor Jan Harder says setting the bar at 4.4 per cent will make it easier for some of the councillors to jack up the tax increase.
City Staff will come back with the budget on December 15th.
