有孩子在 daycare的热心父母请进

家有三岁小儿，进 daycare 有两三个月了(只是part time)，在园里从不说英文，老师说他只是用肢体 语言进行交流，但不说话。孩子在家极为活泼，和祖父祖母都是中文交流。我有 点担心他在那一直不说话，对个性会造成压抑。各位有经验的父母请帮忙指教。

My experience

You have to force him to speak English at home. For example, his request is accepted only when he expresses in English. But be careful, this has to be done step by step. You may teach him same simple words in the mean time. After he speaks English fluently, you need to force hime to speak Chinese at home. Good luck!

我觉得没什么问题。因为你在家里和他讲中文，他刚去daycare不熟悉环境，语言当然不愿意动嘴了。不用在家刻意和他说英文，在过一段时间你会发现孩子的英文讲得比你好。

My son don't speak English in junoir kindergarden(he can speak chinese very well), the teacher said he is very quiet, I was very worried at that time. Then when he was in senior kindergarden, I sent him to his classmates home for babysitting afterschool, only in 3 and half months, he has no any problem at all.So give him time to adjust himself, he will catch up very quickly.

don't worry. I teach my son speaking chinese in the home. he was also quiet in the daycare when he just started. but it looks he understands english in the daycare and chinese in the home. after several months, he uses the english words like "go" "up" under the correct situations. he is only 20 months old. my suggestion is to buy some toys, borrow tapes or play games that can teach english, specially teach him how to use these words in the daycare. I use toys to teach my son to learn numbers and alphabet. what you need to concern is that if he is always happy in the daycare. if you find he is not happy or fussy or not sleep very well, you should talk to his caregiver.

My daughter had similar issue at the begining, and it made her so fussy every day because she can't express herself at school. After 3 months, the issue's gone automatically because she got English speaking friends. Maybe you just need encourage your son to play, play and play with other kids. That will help.

Toy is also a good idea.
