condo fee

the condo fee for the house appears very high. you have to pay it monthly. If you live there for 300 months, that is $190X300 besides what you are going to pay for the house and the interest. Buy a house with no or low (less than $50) HOA fees.

Location, location, location.
They say you cant's pick your neighbour, but when it comes to buying a house, yes, you definitely can.
Spend a couple of mornings, let's say from 7;30 to 8;30 a.m., that is the time for the kids waiting for their school buses, go to that neighbourhood and watch for yourself what kind of people you will have in the future. To be honest with you, I'll awfully be racist if I spend 150k to buy a house and live with my only kid, my first advice, stay away from the S*****, they usually have many kids in a family without proper caring and let them hang out on the street where is the crime hot bed, I won't let my kid to be corrupted by them, will you? Second, I'll be damned if I find out I live among the believers of X 教, they are worst as the first group. You can easily distinguish those two kinds of people by their dress.
As the Chinese saying goes on : 孟母三喵教子.

We actually went to see this place when we first started our house hunting, this was a rental property, the owner is a french guy and he seemed to be nice. However several things turned my SO and me off.
1. Electric heating, he didn't disclose it on grapevine, but it can be very costy in winter.
2. basement, very dark and confined, crappy job on the so called 3 piece shower in basement.
3. small second bedroom and steep stairs, might not be good for your kid.
4. pricewise, remember this is a two-bed room condo, it's the norm price for that area, no advantage.

Another reminder, since you are a single mom, bear in mind that you have to shovel the white stuff during winter time, it is a tough job.

that's included in condo fee. However, we loved the living room.

Thanks for the response, tobrub and devilsponge . Your opinion is very valuable. We live in Kanata north, not know much about Ottawa other area. As you said, location is always my first priority because of the child. Since I just separated, I can not aford a house in Kanata north any more. Basically what I am looking for is a house below $170000 with great environment for my little daughter.

For shovel, that is OK. I did all the work these years any way.

By the way, I work in downtown,( although I don't know how long the job will last) do you think which location is suitable for us? Thank you very much.
