Warnings
Ottawa north - Kanata - Orleans
11:23 PM EST Sunday 19 December 2004

Wind chill warning for
Ottawa north - Kanata - Orleans continued

Bitterly cold Arctic air giving wind chills of minus 30 to minus 40
overnight to Monday morning.

This is a warning that extreme wind chill conditions are imminent or
Occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for
updated statements.

Intense northerly snowsqualls persist in the traditional snowbelt areas south of Lake Huron and will continue overnight. Snowfall amounts of 15 to 30 centimetres are likely along with whiteout conditions due to blowing snow and heavy snow.

Intense snowsqualls extend along the eastern shore of Lake Huron to Grand Bend to south of Watford. Snowsqualls off Georgian Bay have weakened.

Extreme caution is advised for travellers in these regions. Ontario provincial police reports have already indicated low to at times nil visibility and poor driving conditions in squalls earlier today.

Dangerous driving conditions will continue in the snowsqualls and travel plans should be thus adjusted accordingly.

Additionally plummeting temperatures combined with strong northerly winds are resulting in wind chills in the minus 30 to minus 40 range tonight and Monday morning.

Because of the high wind chills frostbite can occur on exposed skin in a short period of time.

The snowsqualls will taper off and wind chills will improve Monday morning as an approaching Arctic high pressure ridge allows the winds to diminish.

Please refer to the latest public forecasts for further details.

Thank you very much for your info. The house

was making irregular "bang"noises(cracking?) the whole night due to the terrible coldness. I am so scared. Did you have the same experience?

I was a bit worried about metals getting broken for low temperature. It didn't turn out that way. Ottawa wasn't cold enough for that.
