Canal opens

Note: The National Capital Commission (NCC) is pleased to announce that the 35th season of skating on the Rideau Canal Skateway begins today. As of 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 28th, 2004, skaters are invited to skate on the world-famous ice surface located in Canada's Capital. Maintenance crews are out today making the final preparations on the Skateway . Ice surface conditions are expected to be fair to good. Skaters should be cautious, particularly along the edges where the ice surface is rougher. They are also urged to respect barricades and signs.
