Minto asks the new home buyers to pay for the new home warranty. Anyone have similar experience with Minto or other builders in Ottawa?

yes, we were asked to pay 6xx for it.

Re: new home buyers ask to pay for the new home warranty

Yes, my builder is Tartan, and we have to pay $5xx for our new house.

Has anoyone tried to negotiate to include the new home warranty into the selling price? I am kind of uncomfortable that the Minto or any other builders do not provide warranty of their products; but rather, they expect the buyers to buy third party warranty to cover builders' workmanship defects?

Richcraft did not ask me to pay new home warranty

Richcraft and Urbandale's prices include the new home warranty - it is listed on its spec..

It is a matter of who pays for the home warranty :(, but still the same party responsible for the builders' workmanship defects

no matter who pays for it, warranty is offered by TARION, not builder at all.

Thank you everyone for the inputs. It is nice to know more. Yes, I agree. Urbandale's listing price includes Ontario new home warranty.

I was told that what we paid is actually the "registration fee" for ONHWP. It is not a big amount. ONHWP charges builder much more for each house, like a premium on an insurance plan. I forgot the amount, but I recall it was huge. My reaction at the time when I heard it, was - wow! If ONHWP lives on builders premium, then who are they really protecting? builders or buyers? No wonder when I checked with them about the reputation of my builder, it was excellent, while I know for a fact that lots of my neighbours were angry at the builder for poor services.

Very interesting point. Checked the Ottawa volume builder, found Urbandale has the highest score.
