My thoughts exactly. There have been many cases where students are trying to give away dogs because of their busy school schedule. Dogs are sensitive animals that require constant attention and care. Student life does not gurantee time to give dogs the time and care they need, therefore if you are a student, think TWICE before getting a dog.

Another issue is the type of dog to get. I have noticed that a lot of people here still live in apartments, and they have a large dog sometimes even more than one trapped in a small area. This is cruel and irresponsible to the dogs if they are hounds (beagle, terrier) or working dogs (huskies, german shepard). Apartment living however are suitable for a large range of dog breed such as Shi Tzu, Pomeranian, Chihuahua and other small types of dogs, or even retired greyhouds. If you still live in an apartment and want to have a dog as a pet, please look up the breed's personalities and needs before getting one, don't just look at their appearances or think its "cool" to get a large dog. Chances are you are going to have hell of a time keeping them in your apartment. It will become a drag and suffering for both you and the dog.

Anyway, just my two cents. Hopefully the message is going to get through someone's ears before they get a dog. :-S
