Too much argements on this topic and lots of nonsense and personal attacks.
Here are my views
1. People should donate for the relief as it affects many people's life, especially those children and women. People's life are more precious than anything else, no matter if they are Indonesian, Chinese Indonesian,Sri Lankan. Indian etc.
2. Don't directly relate this relief to the violence happened in Indonesia years ago. Those Indonesian who involved in the violence against Chinese Indonesian should be punished for sure, if you don't think that their government has done enough on this aspect, you should collect evidence and accuse them in international tribunal located in Hague, Netherland. There is no use just to express your anger here, you should follow the procedure in a democratic way.
And people can make donation to help out on that.
3. I have a colleague who is from Sri Lanka and is traveling there with his family when disaster heppended. Here is part of his email:
.....
The situation herre is really really disastrous - if you have heard about Visala (during Buddha's time) - it might be similar.
The city we always go to buy stuff is no more there. The shop owners we dealt with no more there. The coastal stretch from my closest town - Tangalle to Colombo was completely destroyed. In once single incident the whol train with 1500 people were completely awashed. The 80 Ton train engine was moved by about 100 m away. Only few survivers for this train. Lot of freinds were among the dead in this train. Survivors stories are terrible - Caseendra crossing, Titanic are just a story of a single family. thousands of families had similar real life expereience when there loved ones children were flown away whiel they are trying to keep them with them by holding there hands.
The town I studies also completely distroyed (Galle). The area is still smelly - thre shoudl be more corpses among the rubbles.
Anyway, it is very timely that the people in the other world do some there part here.
....
So you should know how the situation is there and should try to help.
