In 1996, there are 870,000 CHinese, in 2001 there are 1,006,000 in Canada. But there are also 60,000 Taiwanese in 2001 census. They are counted as Chinese in 1996 as Taiwanese is not availble as an ethnicity option.
So the increase of Chinese population are more than the immigration during the period. Of course, there are natural growth, still, the number of departing Chinese are very low.
