Subject: Context following the Student strike prolongation
Good afternoon,
We just received the information that UQO Students have decided to go on with the strike until Monday March 21st, at noon. They will, at that time, reconsider their position. I remind you of my yesterday message, addressed to "all", that stipulated UQO resumes its Teaching activities starting this Friday at noon.
I first want to tell you that we chose to suspend the activities during the first days of the student's strike to ensure the best possible climate within our Institution. However, we all understand that it is a strike by students and, even if we are sympathetic to their revendications, that we must keep the objective of a semester as little affected as possible. Furthermore, other considerations more of a political nature with regard to Government financing, bring us to keep our position of maintaining our activities.
This being said, we want a calm working climate to prevail within our buildings. Consequently, we expect our Professors and Part-Time Instructors to offer their teaching activities only if conditions make a normal teaching possible.
In particular, I believe you should use good judgment and not have exams or require the remittance of Term papers during the days of strike. Furthermore, it would probably be wise to take advantage of our technological tools to make possible for our students who will not attend their courses to however go on with their learning.
Do not hesitate to get in touch with me with regard to these questions.
I thank you for your understanding and invite you to inform the professors and part-time instructors of your department about this E-mail content.
