1, buy a cat
2, use a mouse trap
3, seal possible hole to outside of the house
4, ... catch it manually (kidding).

The mouse trap from Dollar store worked fine for me when I had some small mice in my garage two years ago. I used peanut butter on the trap.

I really know a 最有效的灭鼠方法. I ever lived at basement, 老鼠 often walk around and I even step one new born 老鼠.Any methods people mentioned the landlord tried and doesn't work. Tell you what, if you find one, there wouldn't be some but a nest of rat. You cannot stop them.Finally, we bought electronic 灭鼠器(around$20),palm size. IN a week, all rat had gone.I tested using the trapped rat. When I moved electronic 灭鼠器 closer to rat, the rat have a spasm. I guess all of rats feel the pulse and run away.
