I'm going to quit my job here and work in NYC soon. I'm waiting for the legal document to apply for a TN visa. My problem is that I got my degrees in France. I know I should have them accessed by ICAS. Should I also have them translated into English as well or the accessment from ICAS is good enough for TN visa purposes?

Another question may be too early to ask. You mentioned in your previous posts that your husband worked in US under TN status as well. Since TN visa is temporary and only good for a year, switching to a long term solution such as green card may be the best.I know my employer will sponsor me for that once I get settled there.Do you know of some concrete examples? and how long does it take?

Your answers as well as other people's would be much appreciated.

Thanks

1.: Get your degree assessed by ICAS should be good enough.

2.: Getting a green card takes years, literally. I have friends working in Microsoft who applied for green card since 1999 and still waiting. True TN must be renewed each year, but it's largely procedural, spend an hour at any entry point once a year isn't too bad compared to being stuck in one company for years waiting for the green card, anyway that's only my opinion. If you demonstrate to Revenue Canada that you no longer have any relations with Canada, you can stop paying Canadian taxes. Frankly I don't see many benefits of applying for a green card.

Thanks JJ for your prompt reply! Re GC, I think I will apply for it given the nature of my job. I will stay in NYC for a while if not the rest of my life (I work in financial field by the way).I don't mind being stuck for a couple of years with my employer, which is the largest financial institution in the world. Besides, recent law changes in US give employees the flexibility of not staying with the same employer six months after the GC application is filed (if I'm not mistaken).

You'd better make sure of that recent change in US immigration law. It's OK if you don't mind staying with one company, for a LONG while, not 2 years from what I've heard, be prepared to wait for a LONG time.
