There's an over-the-counter eye solution you can buy at a vet's office (not sold in pet stores), you can use it to flush your cat's eyes to reduce the irratation. It will not cure eye infection, but in the mean time your cat will feel better. Just walk into a vet's office and ask for such a solution. Eye infections are common in some long-haired cats. I recommend going to see a doctor and get a prescription, so when it happens next time you can call the vet directly to renew the prescription, without having your cat seeing the vet again.
