[问题] Hepatitis B vaccine

Who knows what is the best time (ages) for the baby to take hepatitis B vaccination.
My son is 8 month old. I'll send him back to China around August,and I'd like to have him vaccinated after he comes back to Canada (six month he will stay in China). Is't fine for him? Please provide me more information.

The best time for baby to get Hepatitis B vaccine depends on Mother's immunization status with HBV. If you don't have HB antibody, the baby could be given the vaccine right after he is born; if you have the HB antibody(HBsAb), the baby could be vacccined 6 months after birth. The HB vaccine is covered by OHIP( I think). The HB neddles will be given as in a 0,1,6 month series. Therefore, your choice could be get him vaccined in China within this 6 months stay, or when he is back to Canada. Either one will be "good" enough for him, i bet !

But I have another question, my former doctor asked to take blood test before vaccination, but the new doctor said don't need to do it. Which one is correct?

The doctor might wanna make it clear if he has already been immunized by the HBV, which is almost impossible for your son's case. But you need to make sure what test he was asking, is it a test for HBV, or something else? If so, you could just get him the need as your plan.
