Computer giant IBM Corp. will build a new development lab in the west end of Ottawa that will develop software for next generation Internet devices.
The lab, scheduled to open by January 2004, will be staffed by the 100 employees of local subsidiary Object Technology International. It will also hire 12 new engineers.
The lab will be located on Queensview Drive where OTI's operations are located. OTI's existing facitilies will be closed.
The new lab is expected to expand quickly and occupy a total of 39,000 square feet. IBM hopes the lab will foster collaboration with students and academics, as well as with other Ottawa companies.
The OTI facility developed the Eclipse software used in one of IBM's key e-business products, Websphere.
