some friends of mine have asked me for my photos for their house decoration. Also, I would like print out some, so I can hang them up in my apartment. But I don't have a photo printer. I saw a post a while ago about this very issue. Yet it ended up with jokes. I am seriously looking for someone or a store that offers professional prints. I need large prints though. Letter size is minimal.

care to share some info, or provide an offer?

Thanks!

The best you can do and you should do is to get your own printer. If you need large print, think about Canon i9900 (?) which GangW owned. If you don't print larger than 8x10 often, get a cheaper model.

Why ? Get it printed at the shop does not have quality control whatsoever. Printing is a very important step in getting the final result and you can't let other people make the choice for you. The reason I decide to get my own printer is I'm so sick and tired of the results I got from Futureshop, Costco, etc., etc.

And to get someone else to print it for you is so much of a hassle both for yourself and the guy who offered to print-- simply not worth it and not a long term solution.

I got the discontinued Canon i960 a few months ago and man, that's one of the best $150 spent on photo. You won't regret it.

I like to print my pictures under my control, but in fact the pictures (prints) I sold were developed in the Photo lab, because of the cost.

the cost to print a 13x19 with a professional paper should be more than $10.

At Costco, 12x18 is $3.99

I don't think your price quote is correct. For $3.99 you can only get 8x10 most of the time.

Also, did you tried cheaper paper ? I used kirkland photo paper around $20 per 120 sheet (8x10) and I had excellent result. I don't use Canon paper.

fad, you didn't go Costco often.

Here is the price list:

4x6 ---- .18, or 0.19 (one hour)
5x7 ---- .59, or 0.79
8x12 --- 1.99 or 2.99
12x18 --- 3.99 or 4.99

I bought a box of kirkland photo paper, not bad at all.

Is there a professional shop that does the prints? I don't want to buy a photo printer, since I will be printing only, say 30 prints a year, maybe? There is no point to own a printer. If anyone out there know a decent professional print shop, let me know, please?

Thanks!

I believe that every photo store supplies the "professional" printing such as Herry's, Galaxy, Black, ...... Future shop, Wal-mart,.........

But in these store you may not get the professional prints you want, especially for the "high-key" or "low-key" pictures.

The printing under your control is the best.

Gangw: propably Costco have some deep discount occasionally but i don't understand how they can be so aggresive in pricing. The link below shows the price for futureshop-- $11 for 12x18 !

http://pix.futureshop.ca/en/support_pricingandpaymenttypes.php

Xterra: can't offer too much advice on the print shop. Tried Futureshop, Costco and a US online shop (snapfish?) and I'm not happy with any of them. Gang may know better than i do.

BTW, make sure you calibrated your monitor to the best you can (even with software). Otherwise you are wasting your time and money. I learned my lesson here.

just for the paper size, 12x18 = 9x4x6, but 3.99 >> 9x0.18 so they are still making money!!!

from my investigation, costco uses the same machine as galaxy.
Thinking of that, how much money galaxy makes?

plus they told me that all negative films are first scanned into digital file
in those machines, then print out. So....:D

Thank you very much for your kind advice. How could I ask more?

I calibrated my monitor ever since I got my camera. :) I hope it is all right.

When I said "professional", I meant it. I don't trust Walmart or futureshop in this very regard. They are next to garbage. I really meant a "professional" print shop. I have a contact from our marketing department, they know a great print shop. I just figured that I should talk to you guys before I go ahead. doesn't hurt to ask. :D

I was actually wondering if any of you guys want to print it for me, I will pay fair maket prices for the prints. You know, it is kinda like a side income. However, if you guys don't feel to take it, then I will go through regular way then.

Again, I really appreciate your advice!

Are you going to back what you just said? If so, I will be checking out Cosco then. :D
