You can get a much cheaper one to be used in conjuction with a PC, i.e. a laptop. We bought one from the US for about 60 dollars (or maybe 80 bucks including a map software from DeLorme), not too bad.
A stand-alone GPS is very expensive and is mostly used in extended outdoor activities like backcountry camping or over-night hiking.

The only thing that annoys me about my GPS receiver is that the map software is far less sophisticated when it comes to Canadian maps! However the US maps are fairely accurate and you can update the map software free of charge. The discrepancy is about 10 meters in the states.

用的是DeLorme自带的软件。其中的加拿大地图十分落伍。

DeLorme EarthMate does offer this capability. However you may need additional cable to be used on your palm pilot. It uses either serial or USB port and offers voice navigation.
