bought a Maxtor 80G (133) from a personal dealer.
$150, no tax.
retail box , same as the one at futureshop.
including an extra IDE card(133) with two IDE ports, a IDE cable.
personaly opinion:
IBM:
Terrible experience with IBM hard drives (broke two, 30G and 60G), it
destroed my faith in IBM hard drive, no matter how good the performance is.
Maxtor:
1.because it recognizes the pci-IDE card as a SCSI equipment, it conflicts
with my 3940UW SCSI control card. I can not boot from SCSI hard drive.
2.Now using Maxtor as data hard drive, start up speed is slow. Data transfer
speed is ok. Some noise occurs when starting.
3.Using 2 CD-ROM,3Hard drives, power problem will occur in which Maxtor's
80G cant be access, but IBM's can.
Concluding: Performance is absolutely IBM's predominance. But when you are
busy in backing up tens of GiGa Data, it is really not fun. Using Maxtor for
the first time and only for 20days, so far it is ok.
