Ottawa Man Charged in Ardeth Wood Murder

A 25-year-old Ottawa man is facing a murder charge in the death of Ardeth Wood.

Police Chief Vince Bevan says Chris Myers has been in police custody in North Bay since May 14th, on a sexual assault charge.

Chief Bevan says in addition to the murder charge, Myers also faces four sexual assault charges locally, stemming from incidents that happened between July 2003 and December 2004.

Ottawa Police were joined by the RCMP, and police from Gatineau and North Bay for Thursday's announcement.

Ardeth Wood's body was discovered near Greens Creek shortly after she disappeared in August 2003.

Since then, police have chased 5,000 tips from the public, and have look into more than 1,700 "persons of interest."

The police have not been able to link this guy to the murder of Ardeth Wood before Sep 8? They said nothing when investigating the Jeniffer case last month.

Two years after Ardeth Wood was killed in the east-end, the man now accused of her murder will appear in court today.

After pouring over five-thousand tips and 11-hundred "persons of interest", Ottawa Police announced Thursday that 25-year-old Chris Myers was in custody for the 2003 murder of Wood.

Myers has been in police custody in North Bay since May on a charge of sexual assault.

Ottawa Police Chief Vince Bevan says "good hard work mixed with luck" resulted in charges being laid.

Major Crime Investigators had questioned Myers in the Wood case when he was first arrested, but police said there wasn't enough evidence to link him to the murder.

Bevan says two Ottawa Police investigators probing a robbery in North Bay overheard detectives discussing the case and "it clicked with them."

The chief told the media on Thursday that Myers "arose as a person of interest early in the investigation... and as we worked and progressed through all the persons of interest, he maintained that status."

Myers has also been charged with four sexual assault incidents. Ottawa Police accuse Myers of four incidents between July 2003 and December 2004.

Ardeth Wood disappeared on August 6th, 2003 while out for a bike ride near the Aviation Parkway. Her nude body was found five days later near Green's Creek.

Bevan says since Myers has been in police custody since May, he has no connection to the murder of Jennifer Teague.
