I used a router to connect 2 computers at home using Rogers' High Speed Light version. Everything works fine in terms of resource sharing and simultaneous internet access for the 2 routed home computers.

However, I always get different e-mail contents when logging on to check my e-mails from the 2 computers (Be reminded that we only have one e-mail account for Rogers Light High Speed Internet Access). Is there any way to fix this annoying problem?

Thanks very much for your assistance ahead of time!

What do you mean by "different e-mail contents"?

If you want to get the same email twice (one copy for each computer), set to leave the email on the server for a few days after downloading. With Outlook Express, find the settings from tools->accounts->your emails account->properties->advanced. Under "delivery", check "leave a copy of messages on server" and "delete from server after n days".

Hope this helps.

Your response does not seem to be relevant to my problem.

Let me clarify: Different e-mail contents mean actually different e-mails. For instance, you send me an e-mail, I can only view it in one computer but not the other one; but, I could use either of these 2 routed computers to send e-mails.

u using outlook express to check email?
If yes, then apply for the second email address from Rogers.
And set up different accounts on different computers.

But just personal opinion, I seldom use ISP's email address unless
I want to send some big file by email. Cause once u disconinued ur
service, they will stop the email service immediately.

Yahoo is still a good choice.

By the way, there is instruction in the Rogers' manual about applying for additional
email addresses.

Yes, I do use Outlook Express to check e-mails.

My Light version Rogers Internet Account would only allow me one e-mail account.

Are there any other ways to figure this out?

then no.
sorry.

I agree with jk603h. When you check e-mail on one computer, you download the e-mail from the server. If you use another computer to check the same e-mail, you would not be able to see it on the mail server. If you follow jk603's suggestion, your problem will be solved.

As you could not send yours e-mail, it could be you did not set up the outgoing mail server properly. Go to account->properties->server, configure the server properly (put down the server's full name, instead of the simple one as Roger's suggested)

Hope this helps.

Sawol: the best way is to have an alias. Emails sent to this alias are routed to the real email account, which can be the one provided by your ISP. This way, you can change your ISP and can still use their email accounts. People who send emails to you don't know you have changed ISPs.

I still don't understand. You are losing emails or emails are corrupted somehow? If you are losing emails, you should read my previous post again. Otherwise, I can't seem to help.

Sawol: a problem with web-based email accounts is their storage limits. With Outlook Express or anything similar, you get to save a lot of emails, view them offline, and back up. That's why many people prefer email clients.

Ask your provider if they support IMAP or web-based email, either way it can solve your problem. or if you have a unix box at home (one of your pc's), you can install a mail-server, e.g. sendmail, and proc-mail and imap, then you tell your provider to setup "forwarding" to pull all your emails to your own server. Then they are under your own control. A lot of people doing that.
