The president of the Amalgamated Transit Union has confirmed to CFRA news that there will be a strike at OC Transpo starting Monday morning, if a new contract agreement isn't in place.
Bob Simpson is briefing drivers and mechanics at this hour, but he says contract talks are not going well. There are still outstanding issues regarding wages, working conditions, and benefits.
Simpson and other union officials are handing out an information sheet to drivers and mechanics, telling them to report to work early Monday morning, but be prepared to set up picket lines. The information also tells them to contact their bank managers, purchase any needed medicine, and prepare their families for a strike.
The union will give the official strike notice to the city at a meeting later today.
It's not yet known if the two sides will continue negotiations through the weekend.
