Carleton sends condolences
Today Carleton University mourns the passing of two young men who both aspired to make a difference in the world. Both men died last week in a terrible shooting at a local Ottawa nightclub.
On behalf of the Carleton community, President Atkinson passed along our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Linhai Tian and Tailing Liu.
Laura Cohen from the International Student Services Office was asked to formally represent the University at a memorial service held earlier today.
While both men were not current students at Carleton they aspired to be.
Both international students applied to Carleton in 2004 and Mr. Tian enrolled in an intensive ESL course last fall with a view to completing his registration. Even though they were members of the Carleton family for only a brief moment they will be dearly missed.
A number of current Carleton students were friends of the young men. Please know that there are resources available at Carleton for those who may need support or assistance during this painful time. These include:
