Subject: CHINA RISES: special CBC TV series begins Sunday CHINA RISES: special CBC TV series begins Sunday
Hello -
We invite you and your colleagues with great respect to join us as we broadcast the world premiere of a very special documentary series, beginning this Sunday.
CBC and The New York Times have joined together to produce CHINA RISES, a two-part documentary that takes you into modern China as no television series has ever done.
China - host of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and emerging superpower - is undergoing the most extraordinary economic, social and political transformation of our time. But it is also a nation faced with an enormous population, a strained environment, and an unequal distribution of wealth and opportunity.
CHINA RISES portrays the triumphs and disappointments of remarkable individuals caught up in an epic story. From the once-rebellious artist designing the Olympic Stadium whose father was destroyed by the Cultural Revolution, to the rollerblading student who dreams of joining the Communist Party, to the high-flying business executive determined to take on E-Bay and the young fashion entrepreneur in Shanghai, this is an intimate portrait of an emerging global power. Four themes are explored in this series - Olympics & politics; The Economy and the new middle class; Food and how China will feed its people; and Shanghai, City of Dreams. Filmed entirely in High Definition, this journey into urban and rural China is visually stunning; this is China, as never before seen on North American television.
We invite you to join us in watching this special broadcast, in two
parts: Sunday January 22 and 29, 8pm-10pm. Available In High Definition.
Feel free to pass this email to friends, families and colleagues who have an interest in modern China - its people, its economy and its culture - or to post it on suitable websites.
Hope you'll tune in next Sunday! With our gratitude - and our best wishes for a very happy and prosperous Chinese New Year!
