Need handyman to install central vacuum system

Can anyone recommend a handyman to install central vacuum system? the house is already roughed-in for basement exhaust unit, but we want to alter it to garage.

Or, has anyone done this DIY? how much effort is it?

Install central vacuum with roughed-in should be a ok DIY. But to alter it from basement to garage could be tricky. Fit PVC pipe is easy, since there is not water involve even you make a small mistake; it wouldn't be a big deal. But where to drill hole from basement garage will depend on your house. It may be easy, may be difficult.

If it's for basement exhaust, then I am confident with DIY. But for garage, I have 2 concerns:

1- drilling hole from basement to garage

2- the piping would have to go back up from basement to garage; will it create enough suction to pull dust from down below all the way up?

As long as you glue it right, it should be powerful enough for the suction...

Have a similar question. We have the central vac installed, but if the vaccum unit doesn't stop after we unplug the hose, is there something we can easily fix DIY? Or do we have to replace the vaccum unit or hire somone to replace parts?

Everywhere coz now we have to keep the vaccum unit unconnected with any power so it won't run. Basically the vaccum is "always" running if we connect it to power.

There should be two small wire connect to power unit other than the power line. If you disconnect these two lines the unit stops (power unit switch is on auto). The power unit is fine. These two wires are the control wires from the inlet to the power unit. If you short these two wires, the unit should be on. If you disconnect them the unit will off.

If your central vacuum works wrong from day one. There is some wrong about the rough-in. There is a short somewhere down the line. I will start with take apart the inlet to check the wiring there. It is the most likely place. If it is not the inlet the things become tricky…….
