这里房子的面积怎么算？

比如说1800尺，是不是算上地下室和车库了？有人说finished basement是算在面积里的。车库是不是也算啊？怎么看了一个一层和2层加起来1600的townhouse觉得那么小啊！尤其是1层没觉得比我住的公寓大多少。是不是这里的房子都是分成living room and family room两个厅啊？这个1600的房子每个厅也就10平米，太小了，还不如公寓里就一个厅20平米显大呢。

The house size dose not include a garage and a basement even it is finished. It is measured with outside demission of every story. The garage size is subtracted from the first floor size if it is attached to the house. You can measure it by yourself. The error may be within 50 ft^2. Good luck.

Generally people refer to the 'actual living space' as the square footage of the house, meaning if the basement is finsihed, it will be calculated, since garage is not really 'livable' per se, we don't include that.

Often times, when a basement is finished, people would mention something like '1800 sq ft including basement' or '...excluding basement' for clarification.

BUILDER给的房子面积，计算得很粗糙。比如说，楼梯，不但计算在内，还计算两遍--楼上算一遍，楼下算一遍。。

如果是从外面来计量面积那不是建筑面积了？因为包括了墙的面积。那不是和国内一样了？
