On Monday and Tuesday of next week, the Carleton University Students' Association (CUSA) will pose a referendum question to you all, the student body; all undergrads are eligible to vote on this. They will ask "Are you in favour of an increase in the CUSA fee to aid in the construction of a new student building at eleven dollars and sixty cents per credit and adjusting the fee annually by the consumer price index?" In other words, from $7.60 to $19.20, or 252.6%.
This referendum question is crucial for many reasons. Some students want a new student building, others do not. Some students support the fee increase, others do not. One thing is certain, voting YES or NO will have ramifications for students at Carleton for many, many years to come. Please try and familiarise yourself with the issue as much as possible. Both the YES and NO committees present strong arguments for their side.
