Checked price for rotor and break pads recently.
For rotor, you can get it from $20 to $200+, YES! $20 - $200+ each!
For break pads you may get them from $20+ to $100+ for a set of 4.

As the $20 rotor indicated, it will last at least 2 years/40,000km.
By the same lifetime/price ratio, the $200 one SHOULD last 20 years/400,000km and every one here knows it's not even possible.

The same applies to break pads too.

So my question is, what's the best quality/price ratio for the rotor and break pads and how much is too much?

Do we have any DIY guy here who can answer the question?

Break pad is not expensive. Rotor is about 100-200. I don't know where you can get the rotor at $20.

The car's year, mileage. How long the original pad last and price from dealer and How long you plan to keep the car? Do you feel pumping when you hit the brake.
I change pad myself. The choise of rotor and pad every much depend on these information to get best price/value ratio.

Thanks to every one replied above.
I can see there're very knowledgeable guys here.
Luckily I met an off-duty auto mechanic in Canadian Tire couple of days ago.
What he told me is if you double the price, it won't be true that you can make the rotor/pads last twice as long.
So for DIY guys with an old car, it may be a good idea to choose the low end ones.
There're several auto part stores around.

I went to Partsource and I got $25- each for the rotor and $25- for the break pads (set of 4).
Have them changed and no more pulsation!
Total cost: two rotors and one set of pads $75- + taxes = $85
BTW, the price may vary for different make/model/auto-parts store as you can imagine.

lol 20 bucks rotor = warped on first use

Yeah, some one was telling me the same thing too.
There're so many versions up there.
So I decide to try it myself.
I've put a few mileage on it already.
I'll let you guys know my first hand experience few month later.
