Replace small area of shingles on the roof

The shingles above the garage seem like peeling off, but the whole roof should still last for 3-5 years. Can we just replace the small area of shingles (about 1ft x 6ft)? Anyone knows how much it will cost for labour if we hire someone to do it?

Is it going to be costly to fix small part of the roof? Any idea of how much such project would cost? We wonder if we should wait for maybe 3-5 more years to replace the whole roof.

I am not sure about the cost. It looks like about half day's job for one person. I will not pay over 200 for that. You may able to find someone willing to do it cheaper.
DIY should not be too difficult since garage roof is not too high.
How old is the shingle? In Ottawa it usually last 18 to 20 years. Most of the time if the shingle shows sign of wear but does not break. It may still work for years. A Clawing shingle is just easier to be damage by wind. Take a careful look of the shingle if some piece is broken then you must replace it. If they only show signs of wear my guess is your can still wait.

The house is only 13 yrs old, so at most they are 13. The other shingles look ok, but somehow a small section above the garage door show like peeling. I guess the previous house owner might have done a lot of BBQ right outside the garage.

Replace the whole thing, that's my advice. Normally people replace roof after 10-15 years.
