how to protect the wood deck?

Use a waterproof sealant is the best. Don't use stain. Stain looks great first, but after two years it peels, you have to strip it first then restain. Too much work. Sealant is like a oil. Wood absorb it. after two years, you only need to clean and reapply it.
My deck was stained by former owner. It is pealing off.It troubles me. Because flower beds at all sides. A stain stripper is very strong chemical agent. It may harm plants.

thanks for reply. another question: before the waterproof sealant, I need to use special deck cleaner to clean the deck? I am little bit worry about the chemical product will damage the plant around the deck.

Some cleaner are safe for plant. I forget the name.Try soap or T.S.P first( you get it at paint section.) They should be safe for plants. Do not use anything contain bleach. Regualr house hold bleach will kill tree easily.

hi, every one, how to repair the stained deck to sealant? Is directly put on or need special treat?

You need remove all the stain before seal it. Depend on how much stain still on the board. You can use a chemicial stripper sold at store. Sand it. or power washer it. After that you can clean it with soap or bleach the wood board. Last step is seal it.
