Carleton University will play host to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's basketball championship from 2008-2010.
The announcement was made on Monday by the national governing body of university sport, which heard bid presentations from four potential hosts on Saturday. Carleton edged Atlantic University Sport (AUS), the University of British Columbia from Vancouver, and McMaster University from Hamilton for the rights to the event.
Carleton, which will partner with Capital Sports Properties Inc. to organize the tournament, will host the championship at Scotiabank Place, home of the NHL's Ottawa Senators. Capital Sports Properties Inc. owns both the Senators and Scotiabank Place.
Carleton's Director of Athletics, Drew Love, is thrilled about the opportunity to host the event in the nation's capital.
"We are obviously ecstatic, and are looking forward to working with the CIS in order to make these the best-ever nationals," says Love. "We are very grateful to the AUS for elevating the standards to where they are today, and our objective is now to borrow the event for three years and return it to the CIS in even better shape."
"In the meantime, our Ravens hope they will have the chance to travel to Halifax next year, and get a shot at their fifth consecutive national title."
