Try to ask them to ship by USPS (become Canada Post after crossing the border).
For Fedex, they can calculate the brokerage and duties and taxes in their shipping rate, so you can know exactly how much it will cost, but the number will probably scare you out.
Sometimes if the shipper doesn't declare the value, the customs will make an estimation according to their price list and it will even be more. One time I bought a used scanner from eBay for $50 and the shipper didn't declare the value but put the description there, and the custom's estimation price was like $750 and they billed me $125 for taxes and brokerage etc. Then I had to pay it, and sent a form to the custom office to ask for return, and it was troublesome.
