uOttawa Globe Cup - 渥太华大学全球杯足球联赛介绍 Why the uOttawa Globe Cup?
Is there any better way to fundraise for international child health than by playing the international sport? We honestly couldn't think of any! That is why this fall the International Health Program (IHP), Health Services will be organizing the first annual uOttawa Globe Cup soccer tournament fundraiser for orphans in the Kilimanjaro district of Tanzania.
Where the money goes...
Funds raised at the UOttawa Globe Cup will go directly to support children orphaned by HIV, many of whom are HIV-positive and whose parents have died of AIDS or AIDS-related diseases. These funds will go through Kilema Hospital’s Canadian partner, the Canada Africa Community Health Alliance, an NGO founded by University of Ottawa directors. The funds will go to programs set up by CACHA and Kilema hospital to treat and support HIV orphans The program will help with children’s nutrition, medical care, education and compassionate care and emotional support every child needs.
Businesses and Services, please see the call for sponsors.
A celebration of cultural diversity and international cooperation!
In the bright sunshine of a brilliant fall weekend, Sandy Hill’s beautiful Strathcona Park will be alive in the celebration of cultural diversity and international cooperation through sport! Soccer is a symbol of these, having become a near universal game played by children from Brazil to Togo, from Korea to Tanzania and of course Canada. International cooperation and respect for diversity are key to addressing the pressing challenges of our time, in health, development and peace. We will be bringing as yet undefined multicultural spice to Strathcona, stay tuned. (By the way, soccer goes on in rain and even early snow heaven forbid!).
We’ve learnt the lessons of social change from Tommy Douglas, Martin Luther King, Mandela and Ghandi and their successes for justice in America, South Africa, India and in Canada. The struggles of this millennium are struggles to be faced together, the social change is on a global scale. Canada can be a leader, and Canada’s University will be a leader with your participation.
This fall, YOU have the opportunity to directly contribute to the heart and future of Tanzania by participating in this tournament.
So are you interested? If you are a soccer nut or at least became one during World Cup fever, and/or if you are nut for good causes, you cannot miss this!
The Tournament...
In this tournament, teams from clubs, associations, packs of friends, pick-up teams, or other gaggles of students will each represent one of the great nations of the world, and compete for Globe Cup glory!
Here’s the deal. It’s a small team, smaller field tournament. Small team is closer to indoor team size, which means you can touch the ball more, it’s faster and maybe higher-scoring and a lot of fun. There’s a whole set of rules for the format, and a lot of them keep the pace of play going without much stoppages.
