Orleans to kanata, 15-20 minutes? Are you kidding me? at least 30-40 mintues.

It depends.
The bus system is good in Ottawa. But it is totally designed for people in and out downtown. Mostly the bus system serves the federal government building. So if you work downtown or go to either one of two universities and one college in the city, you can take the bus. It takes about 40 min to an hour from Kanata or Orlean to downtown. The parking spaces in downtown is hard to find and expensive. So most people work there take the bus.

If you working place is not downtown, unless it is on main bus line or you live nearby. You have to drive. Rush hour is bad everywhere, Ottawa is considered better than many including Toronto. In winter there will be few bad days when storm come, other time is fine. If you live and work alone 95, 96,97 , it is fine to takes bus. They are the main lines check http://www.octranspo.com/Main_MenuE.asp

I understand. Ideally it takes about 20 minutes, but when it comes to rush hours, double that time makes sense.
Not bad.

BTW, I'm so impressed by the English competence of Ottawa Chinese, most of you guys write just as diplomats.:)

I mean time on the highway 417, say from Montreal Road to March Road, (exit 113 to Exit 134, total 21 km), if you drive 120 km/hour on average with no traffic jam (2 km in 1 minute), 20 minutes more than enough. I am a licensed soccer referee in Ontario, and ref games in fields at every corner of Ottawa in the summer. I know how long it takes me to drive to each soccer field during either rush hour or after rush hour. You can try yourself in the morning of any Saturday to see how long it takes for you to drive from Orleans to kanata. Take care, do not be caught by police. :D Good luck!
