Starchoice Satellite $17/month, $35 for awesome TV package, 2 months FREE programming with FREE installation and discounted receivers
This thread was started as a result of a new deal (Oct 10, 2006) for this Starchoice door-to-door rep package. The old thread can be found here. This deal has no known end date. This is Post 1 of 3 (see below).
Programming - Channels and Rebates
For $34.98 per month you get an awesome package It includes all 98 SD channels as posted in the next posting (see below), and also includes 13 HD channels (both east and west, with the purchase of a HD receiver, i.e. 505a) and some French language channels. There are 88 Music and Radio audio only channels, and that listing follows the TV channel listings in the 3rd post of this thread.
All the 'Fine Print' Details
Note that the 'real deal' here is with the $16.99 package called the 'digital value pack'. Never change this to SC's basic pkg if you want to keep this deal. This is all the local stns plus a bit of 'timeshifting' etc. The 'extra value package' is $17.99 which gives you the main 'cable' stns like A&E, Bravo, TBS etc. These are a selection frm SC's $4.99 packages
See brochure scan link below. Also, you get either the Buffalo or the Detroit U.S. SD Stns with these bundles.
The rebates include a 2 month programming credit (i.e. $69.96) and the $50 PPV credit (10 movies @ $4.99 each). You have to use the PPV credit within 90 days of installation. After the initial 2 month programming credit expires you can drop the $17.99 'extra value package', if you prefer. Currently there is an extra $25 rebate, so Total rebate = ~$95.
This package(s) is NOT offered on the SC website you have to call a rep. Because it is specifically negotiated for sale by Ontario 'door to door' reps. My rep has asked not to post their name on the web, it is against SC rules. So you have to post in this thread if you would like rep contact info or PM (Private Message) me or one of the other posters. The deal can be setup over the phone, all except the install, of course. If you mention who referred you they can get a free month of programming.
Additionally, you can add (i.e. purchase) any other channel(s) from SC (i.e. $2.49 individual channels, $4.99 packages or the 'movie channels' for $20 etc) via the SC customer care line @ 1-888-554-7827. Note some channels that are part of SC's basic packages cannot be purchased separately.
Receivers
The cost of the receivers are;
DSR 205 (basic rec) @ $49.00.
DSR 315 (HT rec) @ $79.00 ($99).
DSR 505a (HT + HD rec) @ $149.00 ($179).
Purchase at the regular price from Dec. 1 - 31, 2006, and you will receive a $250 programming and a $50 PPV credit. Total = $389 or $399 (new/current subs). You may not get the extra $50 PPV via the reps YMMV.
The above prices are for the first receiver only, any secondary receivers are at regular prices (this excludes DSR 205). I assume the regular prices are those on the SC website (see prices above, in brackets). 'Ubershopper' has posted that SC will be releasing the 217 and 317 very soon, to replace the 205 and 315. The 505a (HD rec) is referred to as refurbished, but according to my installer the 505a were for a Sat. company in the U.S. but SC purchased them for sale in Canada, so they really are new.
You can have up to 4 receivers in your residence on one dish. You can have up to 6 receivers if you purchase a multiswitch. It has been posted that if you try and have 8 rec per switch they will charge for another account (double your bill - YMMV). If you buy a switch it is $120 from the reps and $99 if you buy it online? Don't ask me why.
Furthermore, if you have more than 1 receiver you pay a monthly multi-receiver fee of $4.99. Yes, it is the SAME cost of $4.99 if you have 2 or 8 receivers.
Other Stuff
If you decide to cancel before 1 year you have to either return all the equipment or pay $200.
If you live in an apartment you may not be able to get the package. You are required to have your 'Super' consent in writing that SC can install in/on your building. Contact a door-to-door rep for further details.
According to the SC website the dish must face south and slightly west in Ontario.
And finally it is still a free install. Once you sign up with a rep they will provide a contact # to call to arrange a day and time for installation. If you move the SC website says they do a free reinstallation at your new residence (must be a customer for 12 mths). There is a lifetime limited warranty on their dish and outdoor equipment
