Last Saturday (Jan 20, 2007), I went downtown to retrieve my daughter’s contact lenses. I parked my car in the parking lot of “真 光 眼 镜” (Laurier Optical, 725 Somerset street west) and went to get my daughter’s contacts from the store across the street. The two stores were located directly across the street from each other and had identical names in Chinese. Both were called “真 光 眼 镜” I assumed they were the same business with the same manager. The original “真 光 眼 镜” was very successful, so I thought they opened a new store across the street to expand their business.

In fact, one of the salemen (Michael?) for the new store used to work for the manager of the original store. This is another reason I was so confident that the two stores were the same.

After I received my daughter’s contacts, I went back across the street to the store I parked my car beside. I was going to drop off the contacts in the car and look around the new store. however I saw a ticket on my car's window. The saleman said he wrote me a ticket because I went to the store across the street first and stayed there for 20 minutes. He threatened that I must buy a pair of prescription glasses in his store, or else he won't waive my ticket. I asked if I could buy a pair of sunglasses or contact lenses, but he said “no” because buying sunglasses or contacts would mean less profit for his store. In addition, he insulted my character by claiming that I was ripping off his business by shopping at his competitor’s place. I tried to explain the misunderstanding. I thought the two stores were the same business because they had the same name and were located so close to each other.

Also, I reasoned with him that I did not simply park my car in his parking lot and leave. I actually went inside his store with the intention of shopping around. The way he threatened me and tried to blackmail me into buying a pair of prescription glasses was completely unethical and against the expected conduct of honest businesses. A customer should never feel forced to buy a product from a store. However, that was what happened when the saleman threatened to write me a ticket if I did not buy a certain product from his store.

I feel that the ticket issued to me was completely unfair, and the manner in which the saleman behaved was unacceptable.

I hope you can give me some ideas of how to proceed.

Thank you!

The lady works at 真 光 眼 镜 (original, 752 Somerset) her services is not that good. Her name is Sandy. Last time, I went there with my mom and my sister. Because my mom can't decided what kind of glasses she like. And she tried few pairs already. I understand kind of waste her ( Sandy )time. But the way she talked to my mom is not very polite. Then when she saw 2 guys came into the store. She just walked away and serve the other 2 guys but not us. My sister was so mad and we left. My sister told me that her friend told her before Sandy only likes to serve male but not female.

They have same chinese name but different english name. So it is not legal to park your car in one store's parking lot but you went to another store. So they can give you ticket. But if you have evidence of visiting the store, you can go to court and argue with them.

I agree "kitaro" said.(it is not legal to park your car in one store's parking lot but you went to another store.)

You did it! you pay it!

I agree with Annexe too. Because I had the same experience also. I will never go back to that store. Last year I went there with my husband. I want to buy a new pair of glasses, but the sales lady keep talking to my husband but not me. Even when I asked her question, she look at my husband instead of looking at me answered my question. I do not like the way that she served us. I don't feel comfortable. Especially when she say... BTW, my name is Sa......

回复-A Bad Experience with "真 光 眼 镜” (Laurier Optical, 725 Somerset street west)

LZ is Chinese. So it is very understandable that LZ only saw Chinese name of this store and didn't notice its English name. LZ also has right to speak up in this public forum. LZ told a story in a very calm and rational way. Why you feel LZ 够狠! There must something in LZ's story make you feel uneas y? Are you someone in this store?

From what I read in this forum, I saw that LZ told the story very properly. And shame on you for what you wrote. What you said 在中国养成的习惯 only apply to you. No matter in China or in Canada, there are many good Chinese people who received very good education and behave very properly. You belong to those who adapt the bad habit no matter where you live.
