精华 请问氡气的问题只是在Morgans's Grant(March南)有,还是整个kanata北部都有?

Radon gas exists everywhere, particularly on rocky areas with resources such as marble, granite, etc. Since Kanata sits on a solid rock foundation, it is possible there will be a higher concentration level there, but whether high enough to pose a risk to human health is out of our imagination. The best suggestion is to have test done on your house since radon gas level is house dependent, just because your neighbor's has high level of radon gas doesn't mean yours will be the same. I bought a radon gas detector and am constantly checking the levels around home, so far it's been way below the acceptable level.

I think the reason house prices in Morgan's Grant are lower compared to other areas in town is because it's further aways from the city, and because the high tech sectors have not yet fully recovered..:-P

I'd read article about houseowners in Morgan's Grant who had paid to do the Radon gas test, found that the radon gas in their house (438 bq/m3) is above the world (a.k.a Europe, WHO, U.S) acceptable limit (150 bq/m3) but below the Canadian limit (800 bq/m3).

You can choose to trust the Canadian government, and believe that 800 bq/m3 won't hurt your health and disregard the fact that most countries in the world believe it's high enough to be hazadous to health.

Radon is known to contribute to lung cancer. From the results of the same study, when a non-smoker is exposed to radon concentrations of 0, 100 and 400 Bq/m3, the risk of lung cancer by age 75 years will be about 4, 5 and 7 in a 1000, respectively. However, for those who smoke, the risk of lung cancer is about 25 times greater, namely 100, 120 and 160 in a 1000, respectively. Most of the radon-induced lung cancer cases occur among smokers.

So, it seems like, as long as you don't smoke, it isn't too bad!

Btw, radon gas is emitted by rocks that have uranium (Granite, graphite, shale are high concentrated ones). Not all rocks have uranium, so even if your house is built on top of rock bed, it could be entirely fine.

谢谢好心人的解释,我不抽烟,可是我岳父抽。

This is not true. Even at 2000, the real estate in Morgan's Grant was much lower than other places.

That's because back in 2000, MG was still a vast vacant land and was considered too remote from the urban..:-)

As per Health Canada web site about "Changes to Canada's Radon Guideline -- Background Information", the new guideline is 200bq/m3.

http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/ahc-asc/public-consult/consultations/col/radon/what-quoi_e.html

In 1988 the federal and provincial ministers of health approved a radon guideline for Canada developed by Health Canada along with the provinces and territories. This guideline recommends that remedial action be taken when the level of radon in the air in a home is found to exceed 800 becquerels per cubic metre as the annual average concentration in a normal living area.

The guideline has not been revised or updated since that time. Based on the recent scientific evidence, Health Canada proposed that the current guideline for exposure to radon gas be reduced from 800 to 200 becquerels per cubic metre. The Federal Provincial Territorial Radiation Protection Committee (FPT RPC) appointed a Working Group to review the proposal and report on its findings to the parent Committee. This was completed in October 2005 with the Working Group supporting Health Canada's recommendation to lower the guideline level to 200 becquerels per cubic meter and to extend the scope of the guideline to include buildings with a high occupancy rate by the public, such as schools, hospitals, long-term care residences and correctional facilities

I am planning to build a new house in the Kanata Estate area. How do I prevent Radon gas?

Can I do something in the ground to prevent any radon gas getting into the house

Morgans's Grant的房子问题不在于氡气,而在于人气。

How about Brookside area Radon gas? lower or higher?

同标题。。 thanks..

As someone mentioned earlier already, the radon gas level depends mainly on the house you live in, rather than the area. As long as you have a good ventilation in the house, you should be fine. If you are really concerned, get a radon gas detector and monitor it for long term (like I do).
