It is not so easy to fix it. To find out the leaking point in the upstairs bathroom, you may need to open up the ceiling of livingroom first, then re-done it after fixing the leak (you may need to re-done the shower/bathtub totally, that would be another $3,000). My friend hired someone do the same job to open up around 2 square feet ceiling of livingromm, cost $1,400. I have almost the same problem now in my house, leaking shower in upstairs bathroomroom and damage the ceiling of downstairs livingroom, and I haven't decided what to do. It makes me really headace. (In addition, if the seller did not use the bathroom for a while before inspection, there was almost no way for the inspector to find out the problem. Feel sorry for your situation).
